The pandemic visa (Subclass 408) is being scrapped

A press release from the Minister for Home Affairs confirms that the 408 visa will be cancelled from 12 am (midnight) Australian Eastern Time on Friday, September 1.

By September 2, 2023

Those that have been submitted but not signed will continue to be processed
Current holders of 408 COVID visa will continue at least until the expiration date, and those already signed will not be affected.

Starting from September 2, 2023

The 408 COVID visa is only open to people who already have a 408 COVID branch to submit a new application. However, the approval time is only six months, and there is a $405 visa application fee.
The Government will process ALL 408 covid branch applications by February 2024.
