The pandemic visa (Subclass 408) is being scrapped

A press release from the Minister for Home Affairs confirms that the 408 visa will be cancelled from 12 am (midnight) Australian Eastern Time on Friday, September 1.

  • Those that have been submitted but not signed will continue to be processed
  • Current holders of 408 COVID visa will continue at least until the expiration date, and those already signed will not be affected.

Starting from September 2, 2023

  • The 408 COVID visa is only open to people who already have a 408 COVID branch to submit a new application. However, the approval time is only six months, and there is a $405 visa application fee.
  • The Government will process ALL 408 covid branch applications by February 2024.
