The University of Melbourne has updated its admission requirements

Australian higher education and vocational institutions are stepping up their assessment of prospective students to ensure they meet bona fide student (GS) requirements for student visas. This means that the relevant genuine student qualifications need to be shown at the time of application for the course and the required genuine student documentation needs to be provided to the institution.

Applying for Bachelor courses

International students applying for admission to the University of Melbourne’s 2025 S1 undergraduate programme can submit information through two channels: domestic application and overseas application:

  • Onshore application: International students currently studying in Australia at Australian Year 12, International Baccalaureate (IB) or GCE A Level must submit an application through VTAC.
  • Offshore application: All other international students, including those studying Australian Year 12 courses outside Australia, can apply directly to the University.

The University of Melbourne does not recognise Chinese college entrance examination results, so if your previous academic background is not listed on the official website Recognised international qualifications, you need to complete the Foundation study program as a pathway to study at the University of Melbourne. These courses will provide the foundation for meeting the academic and English language requirements as well as the subject prerequisites for your chosen undergraduate program.

Applying for Master courses

The deadline for international students to apply for the following programmes for admission to 2025 Semester 1 is 31 October 2024: Master of International Relations, Master of Social Policy, Master of Art Curation, and Master of Arts in Executive Arts.

 Australian Foundation Programs

Agriculture majors require a lower level of 76, while other majors such as arts, biomedical sciences, business, design, stomatology, and science require a score of 83 or higher. In order to be eligible for consideration for admission, international students must achieve at least the points required above, meet the course prerequisites, achieve the required grades in the specified prerequisite subjects, and meet the English language requirements.

In addition to the foundation courses of the University of Melbourne, it also recognizes the foundation courses of Monash University, Australian National University College, RMIT, the University of Western Australia, the University of Sydney, La Trobe University, University of Adelaide College, UniStart and the University of New South Wales.
